Mireya Alejo, M.A., MFT, is an artist, licensed  psychotherapist (MFC#44997) and expressive arts therapist in private practice in San Francisco and Berkeley, California.

Since 1988, Mireya has been committed to the process of spiritual growth, consciousness exploration and creative expression.  She studied Social Anthropology at Universidad Metropilitana in Mexico City.  Her degree thesis focused on traditional women healers (curanderas), and participated in a comparative study of traditional and alternative ways of healing.  She earned her M.A. in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Expressive Arts Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, California. She also studied Drama Therapy with Armand Volkas at the Living Arts Counseling Center.

Mireya is a Holotropic Breathwork facilitator,
certified by the Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) in 1993.  She has facilitated groups and individuals in this approach locally and internationally.  She has been part of the senior GTT training staff,  both in the US and Mexico.

Mireya has a strong interest in the integration of spiritual emergency processes, intergenerational and collective/historical trauma, diversity and gender issues, the immigrant experience,  multicultural understanding, and the power of ritual, ceremony and creativity in community.

She is the co-creator with Rosy Aronson, Ph.D. of RIE-Release, Immerse & Emerge- A creative meditation practice.

Mireya has over 15 years of experience as a professional astrologer and uses depth astrology as a tool for self awareness, insight and transformation.

For the past ten years, Mireya has worked towards the empowerment of women through the use of the creative arts.  She
continues to lead groups exploring themes like domestic violence, women's lineage,
the experience of being a woman of color, the integration of the spiritual journey, women and power, and life transitions. She currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for SpiralMuse - a women's organization in the Bay area.
Mireya's passion in the arts is in theater improvisation, the exploration of different dance forms, process painting and mask making. "She genuinly thrives in the unknown and trusts the transformative potential of the creative process as well as the inner healing intelligence within the psyche. Because she continually turns to the arts for healing in her own life, her clients find it safe to explore, uncover and release from the depths of the psyche".
